How to Use the Life Reset Checklist

This might be my favourite freebie I’ve ever made (and that’s saying something.) This life reset checklist has 30 ideas, tasks, and easy checks to reset every area of your life. It can be completed in a day or spread out over a week, and has natural breaks if you need to pause and come back to it.

The best way to use this life reset checklist would be to set aside a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. This Ultimate Life Reset Checklist will guide you through a reset of your home, digital spaces, habits and routines. You’ll reflect, relax, and reset your mind to head into a season of change. It ends with a guided reflection to help you cast vision, set goals, and create a sense of direction as you move into what’s next.

You can download the free printable PDF here! Either print normally or have it laminated for a few dollars and repeated use at Staples.

Reset your space

One of the best things you can do to reset your life – or to make any kind of change – is to change your environment. This is fundamental to building any new habits, and it also gives you that fresh feeling & excitement that creates so much motivation.

The most successful and fun life resets I’ve had have been during times of change. Moving to a new city or apartment, starting a new job or project. But even if your circumstances aren’t shifting, you can replicate this feeling. A simple rearrange of your bedroom or apartment furniture can go a long way, especially when paired with a good declutter.

Clutter is one of the biggest obstacles to a happy, healthy mindset. I’ve been exploring minimalism pretty seriously for the last few months, and let me tell you, it has made a WORLD of difference. MY mental health, motivation, and just general happiness are so much better with a clear space. If you’re not sure where to start, check out this post for 100 Things to Declutter (also comes with a free checklist, if you’re into that kind of thing 😉

Reset your digital space

For the ultimate life reset, you need to tackle all your main environments. That means digital spaces as much as physical ones. With the amount of time we spend on our phones, laptops, and tablets, it’s incredibly important how we set those spaces up.

If you’re anything like me, you probably set your phone up for the ✨aesthetics✨ and haven’t thought too much about it since. We all love a cute background. But your devices are, first and foremost, tools to be used – and unfortunately, they can easily become weapons of distraction.

Resetting your digital space can be as simple as going through the apps on your phone, clearing off your laptop wallpaper, and deleting any duplicate photos. If you want to do something more intense, I highly recommend checking out Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport and exploring the idea of a digital detox. I did this for a month this year, removing social media, non-essential technology and time-wasting apps, and kept my phone in black and white. I can’t tell you how refreshing this was, as well as revealing a lot of my truthful relationship to technology and not just what I thought it was.

Reset your routines

Resetting your routines is possibly the most important and effective part of a good life reset. Spend some time honestly reflecting on how you use your time in the day-to-day and what actually adds value to your life. Do you reach for your phone first thing in the morning? Unwind by binging TV every night?

Your ideal routine will depend on what your priorities are. But if you’re planning a full life reset, it’s probably worth it to switch these up. If you already have a good idea of your dream morning routine, you’re way ahead. If not, consider trying something totally different from what you’re used to just to shake things up. Wake up at 5am for a week, avoid screens for a full hour before bed, go for a run before you read your texts.

Reset your mindset

Perhaps the most important part of any life reset is the mindset component. If you want to change your life, you need to change how you think about it. Our actions flow out of who we believe we are – which means if you want to get more done, you need to become a productive person. If you want to live on purpose, you nee to become intentional in your everyday.

I have a love/hate relationship with self-help content. When it’s good, it’s good, but when it’s bad, it can be extremely manipulative and money grabbing. (In my experience, it’s really easy to focus too much on yourself as well, which can lead to overthinking/anxiety spirals.)

A healthy mindset for a life reset should be open, curious, and excited. Changing your life is hard, but it’s also fun, and infinitely important. As you get ready to transform your habits, experience, and self-perception, lean into things that make you feel good.
