You are Not Powerless.

Faith

This wasn’t supposed to be a blog post.

This was a letter. A series of about 11 text messages to one of my best friends.

But as soon as I was done furiously spamming her phone, I knew I needed to share this.

I think far too many of you have had someone speak the lie over you that you are powerless. Maybe they didn’t use those words. Maybe it came in the form of abuse of authority. Someone else’s power was wielded over your head like a weapon. Maybe it happened when you never got the grade, no matter how hard you studied. Maybe someone did actually say it to you. One way or another, someone has whispered that you are stuck. That you are limited. That you are not enough for what you have been called into.

My friend, this is a LIE. One of the most dangerous lies that can be spoken, because it seems so believable at first glance. As humans with limited intelligence, limited resources, and limited abilities, we often feel powerless to move.

But.

You are not powerless. You are not weak.

Your very existence declares that you are BOLD. The Spirit of the living God is in you. The heart of the Father that sacrificed everything loves you. He has the power to move everything and everyone and he will use you to do just that.

You are not powerless. You are not useless. You are not in the wrong place.

He has called you here, to exactly where you are in this moment, for a PURPOSE. He knows who you will be, and he knew exactly who you were when he put you here. He formed you in your mother’s womb. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and you were made in the image of God. In the image of the Creator who made every single thing.

You do not have to reach a standard. You are not being judged by God on whether or not you hit your sales goal. Your purpose is not to get straight A’s. You were not created as you are, with the gifts that you have, to be stuck in hopelessness.

Matthew 22:36-39 says this: “36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he [Jesus] said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.””

THIS is what He asks. Love God, love others. This is your standard. When this is what you do, even if it is all that you do, it is enough.

It is far too easy to rip these statements apart by saying to yourself, “if God knew what I would go through, why would he put me here? Why would he create me?”

But nothing is meaningless. No pain is wasted. No hurt goes unnoticed or unused.

Take this pain, take the anxiety, take the insecurity, the “powerless”, the “not good enough”, take them and nail them to the cross. For they deserve no further glory. No further worship.

Your life, your salvation was bought and paid for with a price. And our God says that you were worth every second of it.

You are not powerless. You are not weak.

You are loved BOLDLY. There is a fire, a burning passionate desire in the heart of God for you to give him every part of your life. But full surrender is not possible until you let go of the lies.

And I know that that feels impossible. That it feels like their grip on you is too deep. These lies about your life and your identity have been there for so long. They have dug deep into your heart, it almost seems like they’ve become part of you, and you can’t shake them off.

But He will RIP THEM away from you. He will separate them from you as far as the east is from the west. He will declare you free.

All you have to do is let him.

The war is already won. Put down the weapons. Remember who your King is.
