Looking to build a daily self care routine? You’ve come to the right place. I’m deeply passionate about self care, healthy habits, and routines that work for you, and today, I’m telling you allll about how I created the perfect daily self care routine for myself.
Before I get into it, I want to give you one massively important piece of advice — don’t overcomplicate it. It’s easy to fall into the trap of the self care “aesthetic”. Posting pictures of bath bombs, cozy pyjamas, and luxurious relaxation. But none of those things matter if they’re not actually pouring into you.
All self care really is is prioritizing your health and wellbeing. It’s that simple. No one else can tell you exactly how to do that. What I can tell you, however, is that these three practices in my life have changed everything for me. This 3-step daily self care routine works no matter what curves life throws at you. Simple, effective, and consistent, I am confident that you’ll experience the same powerful shift I did and never look back.
Daily Self Care Routine
Get up early
Before you immediately click away, hear me out on this. There is no worse way to start your day than rushing to get ready, feeling stressed the second your eyes open, and running out the door. Getting up early gives you a chance to breathe. Craft the morning routine of your dreams — give yourself time to get ready, drink coffee, eat a decent breakfast, and feel good about yourself before running out the door.
I’m not a morning person by nature — but I’ve learned to love my morning time and routine. It’s become a crucial part of my daily self care routine, and I notice a huge difference anytime I don’t do it.
These 4 easy ways to wake up earlier in the morning will be your best friend as you start this process, and if it’s not enough, check out this article on becoming a morning person. Your call, but honestly this step has changed the way I live and feel about the day.
Turn off your phone
Setting scheduled hours during which your phone is off and out of sight has become a foundational step in my daily self care routine. I work from home, so for me, I usually leave it charging in my bedroom while I work. This allows me to stay fully present in what I’m working on, and it also gives me a much-needed break from the phone addiction that I hate to admit I have.
Smartphones are designed to suck you in. If you don’t believe me, this YouTube video from Vox will shock you. Tech experts want you on their devices as long as possible, and app manufacturers do the same thing. In my experience, the only way to really stop yourself from instinctively wasting time on your phone is to remove it from the premises.
It’s funny how something that is completely within my control feels so hard to control. But just by putting my phone in the other room, I feel more relaxed, present, and focused. I practice this anytime I have a big to do list, need a break, or am trying to spend quality time with someone. Date night? Phone away. Meeting a friend? Phone stays in my purse.
Pick one fun thing to do
This is something I STRONGLY encourage everyone in the world to do. Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think happiness is a choice. At least not how we typically think about it. Your circumstances are largely out of your control, particularly in the short term, and while I encourage you to set goals for where you want to go – you can’t just flip a switch and love where you’re at.
Happiness has to be cultivated. Don’t sit around waiting for something good to happen — be the good in your own life and in others. If you don’t have anything fun or exciting to look forward to today — something that’s not on a to-do list, that’s just a taking-care-of-yourself thing, add one. Schedule it. On your drive to work, the night before, whatever.
Treat yourself to your favourite coffee, paint your nails, write a song, read a book. It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, it just has to be fun. Something that brings you joy. Happiness is achieved through consistent self care, which is why I’m sharing my daily self care routine with you. There’s more to it than that, but it’s a huge part of what matters.

I’m the furthest thing from a morning person and even work night shifts because I dislike mornings so much hehe. BUT I fully agree with your suggestion of getting up early. It has made such a difference for my life to give myself time every day to sit and sip my coffee and slowly wake up to my day. I notice a big difference if I don’t get that self care time in my day.
Wow, your site is so clean and fresh! Super easy to navigate and such a terrific theme! This post has some great self care practices – except I really struggle to get out of bed in the morning! I really want to be a morning person, but I feel it’s not in the cards! The others tips are totally attainable and realistic enough to practice daily! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much! I so appreciate that! I definitely feel that sometimes, it’s not that easy. I’ve been trying to put my phone in the other room, using an actual alarm clock helps a bit!
This is a brilliant post! I fully agree with getting up early – having that extra time makes me so much more relaxed and sets a way calmer and more productive tone for the whole day! x
